The National Is Really International
8/24/2015Welcome to The National, located in the heart of Milwaukee's Walker's Point neighborhood, just south of downtown. We love Walker's Point for its rich history, traditions, and unique flavor and are honored to be a part of this tapestry. Almost everything we offer is made from scratch, and we use the best of fresh, locally sourced and organic ingredients whenever possible. From our olive tapenade to our ginger-infused yogurt, from house-made hummus to the basil pesto. Expect flavor, originality, and only the best ingredients.
Two best friends who met in kindergarten and always had a dream of owning a restaurant together.
Amy Calteux
Amy has been working in the restaurant industry for over 20 years, with the last 16 were spent managing a family owned restaurant in Oak Creek. After all those years of eating the best pizza in town, she's ready to dive into this new venture with her best friend. And there's no one else she'd rather do it with!
Her favorite dish at the cafe is the tuna steak salad and needs her daily dose of almond milk chai latte. With 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 2 cats, her free time is limited but enjoys going to movies, glowing up her house one room at a time, and binging the show Friends (She dares you to go head to head in Friends trivia). Amy is so excited for what they have in store for the cafe and is ready to carry on the great reputation Michael and Nell have brought to the name.
Angela Wierzbinski
Angela has been at The National Cafe for 8 years. Originally hired as their early am baker, she worked her way to cook, manager, and now owner. She favorite dish is consistently the Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich with bacon AND spinach and drinks Andoyne cold brew even in the winter. After living a life of traveling and other service industry gigs, she knew the restaurant and food life was the perfect fit for her. She lives in Bay View with her dog Mattie and two cats and is an avid part of the Bay View and Walkers Point community. In her free time she is always researching and gearing up for her next travel opportunity, exploring the thriving food scene in Milwaukee, and figuring out who has the best gin and tonic in the city. She's most excited about experimenting new food options at the cafe and creating fun pop-up dinners with her talented staff and foodie community.
Ramen Noodle Update
Due to the high demand for ramen, we are unable to keep up with in-house noodle production. We are now using a traditional Japanese ramen noodle, made by Amoy.
